Context
Tegus provided financial modeling software where investors worked with analyst-produced company models and then customized those models in Excel. When company data changed, the system needed to apply updates without discarding the investor’s own spreadsheet modifications.
Paulo’s role
Paulo designed and implemented backend and add-in behavior for the reconciliation problem. The work required reasoning about financial-model structure, spreadsheet state, and the relationship between original analyst data and user-modified content.
Constraints and risks
- Investors needed updated company data while preserving their own modifications.
- The system needed stable rules for identifying which spreadsheet elements corresponded across versions.
- The product operated in Excel and Windows enterprise environments, which added distribution and compatibility constraints.
- Incorrect reconciliation could silently damage user trust.
Decisions and trade-offs
The solution focused on domain identity: predecessor relationships, anchors, and model structure had to be represented explicitly enough for the system to distinguish an update from a user customization.
That approach was more complex than cell-by-cell replacement, but it respected how users actually worked with financial models. It also made the implementation easier to reason about because reconciliation rules were tied to domain concepts instead of raw spreadsheet coordinates alone.
Outcome and evidence
The approved source material states that Paulo designed a reconciliation approach for financial models that could apply updated company data while preserving investors’ spreadsheet modifications.
The same source material states that his work influenced quality practices, interview evaluation, and technical support conversations for enterprise environments.
